Viikon matka Markuksen kanssa Baltian maihin kului takatalven merkeissä. Latvian Kolkassa näimme kuitenkin melko vilkasta muuttoa 18.4., mm. tilhiä pari sataa, varpushaukkoja, kyyhkyjä ja tietenkin pikkulintuja. Sokerina pinnalla muuttohaukka ja arosuohaukka koiras (katso Latvian sivuilta: http://www.putni.lv/phhtm/ph_cirmac_180405_mv1.htm ). Seuraavana aamuna hotellin pihassa Rojassa lauleli keltahemppo, me kiirehdimme staijaamaan. Myöhemmin päivällä katselimme surkeasti piipittäen soidintavaa pikkukiljukotkaa. Krister Castrenin innoittamana tutustuimme Liettuan Kuurin kynnäkseen. Paikka oli aivan mahtava, mutta 21.4. muutto tyssäsi täysin lumikuurojen myötä. Majatalomme oli todella korkealuokkainen, mutta erikoista oli, ettei talon vahtikoira puolustanut asiakkaita, vaan puri lahkeeseeni reiät. Siluten pelloilla oli kuitenkin n.10000 tundrahanhea ja Rusnen altailla puolen sataa uiveloa. 22.4. Latvian Kolkassa merilintumuutto oli kohtalaista, lähinnä haapanoita, mustalintuja, lapasotkia ja kuovejakin 1200.

Our one week trip with Markus to Baltic countries happened in wintry conditions. Anyhow we saw quite nice migration on the 18th April in Kolka in Latvia, for example about two hundred Waxwings, Sparrow Hawks, Woodpigeons and many small birds as Chaffinches. The highlights were Peregrine and Pallid Harrier (look Latvian pages: http://www.putni.lv/phhtm/ph_cirmac_180405_mv1.htm ). Next morning a Serin was singing in the garden of our hotel Roja, but we kept going to follow the migration. Later on in midday a Lesser Spotted Eagle was displaying with a pitiful voice. The consulate of Finland in Lithuania, Mr Krister Castren, excitet us to visit the famous Nida in Lithuania. The place was almighty, but the migration was stopped wholly 21th April because of snowfalls. Our questhouse was very high-grade, but it was strange that instead of defending the customers the dog of the house bite holes to my trousers. In the flooded fields of Silute were about 10000 White-fronted Geese and in the fishpools of Rusne about half a hundred Smews. On the 22th April the migration in the sea was alive, Wigeons, Common Scoters, Scaups and also 1200 Curlews.
