Olen muuttanut tammi-helmikuuksi Kuusamoon tarkoituksena kuvata ja seurata Kuusamon lintuja ydintalven ajan. Projekti on lähtenyt mukavasti liikkelle, sillä Kuusamon keskusta on täynnä marjoja ja marjalintujakin on mukavasti.

Talvi tuli Kuusamoon aikaisin ja nopeasti. Sen seurauksena isoon osaan pihlajista jäi runsaasti lehtiä. Oli mielenkiintoista kuvata -30 asteessa kuuratöyhtöisiä tilhia ruskan hehkuessa ympärillä.

Päivän pituus on peräti 3tuntia ja 15min, joten kovin moneen paikkaan ei päivän aikana ehdi. Luvassa on enemmän valoa, sillä jokainen päivä on edeltäjäänsä pidempi...

. Canonistit voivat taas keskittyä oleelliseen eli kuvaamiseen, sillä uusi ammattirunko 1D mkIV on ensituntuman perusteella varsin onnistunut kokonaisuus. Tarkennuskin näyttää toimivan mallikkaasti, tosin vaikeita lentotilanteita on tullut vastaan vielä varsin vähän.

I am staying in Kuusamo for two months with the intention of photographing birds in and around Kuusamo in the heart of winter. Kuusamo town centre has a lot of berries and plenty berry-eating birds so my project has had a good start.

Winter came early and fast to Kuusamo surprising the trees so a lot of the rowan trees still have leaves. It was interesting to photograph Waxwings in -30 C with their tufts all frosty yet the background is glowing with late autumn colours.

Right now the day is all of three hours and fifteen minutes long which does not allow much time to visit many places. But each day brings more light with days getting longer...

Canon photographers can once more give full attention to photography because based at my impressions, the new professional camera body 1D mkIV seems to be really successful. Autofocus seems to be working like it should, even though I haven't yet had any chances to test it in difficult flight sessions.
